The Pokey Ladies at 12 months

First time in a sand box.

Big girl swinging with Auntie B.
Jason and Maya playing in the grass.
Maya mid fall.

Maya had her twelve month well baby check and only had two pokey's and a finger poke from the pokey ladies. She did pretty good, although she still cries whenever anyone even touches her at the doctor's office. That's what they get for all the poking last month!! Stethoscopes be damned! She'll cry if you listen to her lungs!

Her noggin is in the 90th percentile, she weighs 21 pounds seven ounces which is 50th percentile, and she is 29 3/4 inches tall- 75th percentile. So she's still chuggin' along, although now that she's fully mobile, a bit faster.

She will not hold your hand to walk, she is a big girl and big girl's do it by themselves even if they fall down. And this freaks mommy and daddy out because she always wants to walk, even on concrete. She's getting used to walking in shoes and insists on wearing them around the house..in a diaper with no pants.

Her new word is "go..go..go..go"

Nine Months!

On Monday Maya went to her nine months check up with Daddy. At nine months (I can't believe it!) she is 28 and a quarter inches tall (75%), 19 pounds and 10 oz (65%), and her noggin' is 46 cm (94%) As you can see from the above photo she has become very interested in the world around her. Cupboards especially, she uses her little fingers to open them and then pulls out all the pots and pans so she can sit in the cupboard. We play "Where's Maya?" and close and open the door saying "There's Maya!!) She likes that game. So at the moment all of our pots and lids are lying on the kitchen floor. She also loves standing up, she pulls herself to standing all the time and likes walking around (more like jumperooing/bouncing as she takes steps) with Daddy.

In this picture Maya is "lounging" with Momma on the floor. She spends lots of time looking at her books (which are covering our living room floor) and talking to the babies and animals in them. She is also crawling off her tummy and is so fast we have a hard time keeping up with her. With the standing and the crawling, and the trying to stand up from sitting we're expecting her to be walking by her birthday.

Thankfully (for Momma and Dadda) Maya is sleeping much better and able to fall back asleep without assistance from us- most of the time. We only have to get up and feed her once (sometimes twice) after midnight. (Maya is a gremlin and so we have to feed her after midnight or she'll take over the mall.)

So much has changed and happened in the last two weeks for her! She even likes playing with Uncle Jason now!!

She also will wave bye bye and occasionally say "Baaaaaa" to Momma when she goes back to work after lunch. And Momma still gets those "kisses" (more like puppy licks) when she asks for them..

Kisses!!

Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving we went to Grandma Jo's in Ames and we also went over to Grandpa Greg's. Maya was so happy to final get to meet her Uncle Aaron, Auntie Leah and especially her cousin Maisie.

Maya so loves kids. She just watches them constantly and follows them with her eyes, much like a mall security guard, but slimmer... So she got to play with Max, Maisie, and Nika and loved every minute of it. She was a good baby all weekend and let everyone hold her without any fussing. (Daddy says she's just glad to be out of the house finally!)

(Here is Maya with Grandma and the taggie blanket that Grandma made for her, she loves to sing to her taggies.) On Monday we went in for Maya's six month check up and found out that she's in the 85th percentile for her noggin and her height (27 inches!), and in the 55 percentile for her weight (16 lbs. 9 ounces). And last night she only woke up once for milk! Six whole months! How time does fly.

Just for fun, here's a picture of Max showing Maya how to do The Force, you can see that she's getting because she's lifting her hands up like Max. Soon she will be a Jedi Master like her cousin Max.

Four Month Well Baby Check Up

Last Monday Maya had her four month well baby check up, a week or so late but that didn't matter. She is 25 and 3 quarters inches long (92%), 14 pounds and 2 ounces (55%), and her noggin is 41.5 cm (60%). She handled getting shots a lot better this time around, but had a really rough week AFTER the shots. She slept off a fever and was fussy for a few days.

(This is a picture of her lounging in the bath last week). On Friday she felt a lot better, and so we thought it would be okay to take her over to her Grandma Paula's while we went to a movie. But this did not sit well with Maya who hasn't been around a lot of people in the last couple of weeks. She cried for two and a half hours, didn't sleep or eat until Mommy, but especially Daddy, came back. Then she was laughing and smiling at Grandma's new kitty Wylie. For a Gemini she sure acts like a Taurus!

In the food department she has tried and disliked peas but yesterday she really loved sweet potatoes! She has been exploring her voice and trying to talk in different ways (or she's copying the silliness of Mommy and Daddy), she's laughing at everything, rolling over a lot, and she's really digging laying on the floor holding onto her toes. Oh, and last night she slept for eight hours straight!!

I'll make sure to take more photos this week!

Two Month Check Up

This week Maya had her two month check up...it was a week late, and on Monday she'll be ten whole weeks! We found out that she is 24 and a half inches (97%), 12 pounds 2 ounces (80%), and 39.00 cm for her head (55%). So she's for some reason a very tall baby even though mom and dad are not tall adults. At the check up she received three shots in her legs which resulted in her having a silent scream, turning purple and then finally letting out a real scream. She didn't feel very good that night and needed some tylenol.

This week was also a big week for mommy....she went back to work so Maya has been hanging with Daddy. Daddy says that Maya is loving bath time now that we moved her bath into the big tub. She gets really upset at Daddy for not pouring the water into her mouth. She gets even more upset at Daddy for not letting her slide down her tub into the water so she can drink it that way. She gets EVEN MORE upset when Daddy takes her out of the tub.

Daddy says that Maya also enjoys watching him play guitar. She likes to watch his hands for long periods of time. She's been enjoying watching people talk and will imitate mouth movements. She also has been fascinated by her "piggies" as Mommy calls them. She really wants to get those toesies in her mouth, or at least in her hands but she can't figure out how to do it. This is starting to frustrate her. When I get home in the evening, I take her outside on the porch swing and we rock together, looking around at everything. I mean everything! She's taking it all in and really loving the world! And then she falls asleep.
